WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED IN WOKHA

Wokha district also celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2023, organized by Lotha Officers Association (LOA) in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Nagaland (DEFCC) and Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development (NEPED). On the occasion of planting, varieties of tree saplings were carried out from Wokha to Yikhum village.

Earlier during the short programme held at Public Ground Wokha, Commissioner and Secretary & TL, NEPED & President Lotha Officers Association, K. Libanthung Lotha (IAS) flagged off of WED Avenue plantation and read out the Mission LIFE Pledge, and said leaders are the cream of the society and as such leaders are supposed to set good examples and good precedence for the people and the society, instead of creating division among the society and urged all officers especially to set a good example for the welfare of the society, he also urged all officers to give their best service for the benefit of the society wherever one is posted.

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan (IAS) thanked the LOA for the wonderful initiative of carrying out the plantation drive from Wokha to Yikhum village, which would urge others to replicate the same in other districts as well. He also lauded the participation of school students, which will inspire them to carry forward the values of sustainable development and environment-friendly development with them.

Short speeches were also delivered by, District Anglers Wokha Nagaland President, K. Mhonthung Lotha, and President, Wokha Village Youth Organisation and Divisional Forest Officer, Wokha Suman W. M Sivachar (IFS).

Later the participants led by the LOA president carried out the plantation drive from Wokha to Yikhum Village. According to DFO, Wokha 15510 different varieties of tree saplings, including Bogipoma, Pine, Hollock, Uriam, Yonchak, Walnut, Oak, Cherry, and Alder were distributed in Wokha district for plantation during World Environment Day 2023 by Wokha Forest Division office.
