Tuensang Forest Division in collaboration with Longtang Village Council celebrated World Environment Day on 4th June 2022 at Longtang Village, Tuensang under the theme “Only One Earth”. SP Tuensang, Vishal, IPS graced the programme as the special guest.

The programme was chaired by General Secretary, Longtang Citizen Union, Y. Limba Chang while DFO, Tuensang, Samom Khelen Singh, IFS delivered the keynote address. Singh spoke on the significance of World Environment Day and warned about climate change and its excessive interference in the surrounding ecosystems affecting health and leaving lasting negative effects on us.

Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police Tuensang, Vishal, IPS acknowledged the Longtang villagers for the initiative and commitment of the people towards conservation practices. Vishal said our forest is very rich with so many varieties of plants and vegetation which are not found in other parts of the country but lamented that those plants are disappearing rapidly from our forest due to deforestation and called for community participation in conserving our forest.

He urged everyone to plant as many trees as possible and to plant at least one tree on all special occasions. He also assured to contribute the Tuensang Police truck at least twice a month to the villagers for transportation of fruits and vegetables to the Tuensang market.

Y. Moa, Chairman, GVMC also highlighted the Green Village Management Committee, Longtang, and its role and objectives in conservation practices. The programme ended with the planting of trees at the village.
