The National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP), Longleng, observed World Hepatitis Day 2025 today at Yachem CHC, Longleng under the theme “Hepatitis: Let’s Break it Down” on 28th July 2025, drawing participation from healthcare workers, community leaders, and members of the public.

The event was chaired by Peer Educator of NVHCP Longleng, Penny. The gathering began with an invocation, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Lingshau James, Medical Officer-in-charge of Yachem CHC.

District Programme Officer, Longleng, Dr. Temsu, in his keynote address, highlighted the importance of awareness, early detection, and prevention of hepatitis.  He further stated that hepatitis disease in the country has been increasing every year and it has become one of the most important causes of mortality rate in India. As a result, he said, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken up the said program as a special flagship national programme.

He encouraged all the citizens for early screening of hepatitis and also highlighted about free testing and treatment being provided by the government. He stressed the need for community engagement and destigmatization of the disease to enhance health-seeking behaviour.

An interactive sharing and discussion session was followed, allowing attendees to voice their thoughts and clarify doubts regarding hepatitis and its impact on public health.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Yingli Mission Society, Longleng, appreciating the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in making the program a success.

The observance served as a vital platform to educate the public and reinforce the commitment toward eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
