Mount Olive College, Kohima, observed World Mental Health Day 2025 on 10th October 2025 with a meaningful programme that brought together educators, counsellors, and students to highlight the importance of mental wellness and to destigmatize conversations around mental health.
The event, held at the college auditorium, was organized by the Kohima District Administration in collaboration with SANKALP-DHEW and the Centre for Integrated Counselling Services (CICS), with support from the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Health Committee, and Women Development Committee of the college.
In her welcome address, Principal Dr. Koseno reaffirmed the college’s commitment to fostering an empathetic environment where students can seek help without stigma. This was followed by a special song presentation by Khrutuzo Medeo, Student Assembly Secretary.
A session on the government initiative “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” was presented by Kesoneinuo, Gender Specialist at DHEW-Kohima linking mental health advocacy with gender sensitivity and empowerment. An interactive icebreaker led by Khrievotsonuo Terhase, Counsellor at CICS, encouraged participants to share their experiences and reflect on emotional well-being.
Two key presentations formed the core of the programme. Atsonuo Thapo, Counsellor at CICS, spoke on “From Hiding to Healing: Your Story Matters and So Does Your Peace,” emphasizing the power of personal narratives in the healing process. This was followed by a session on “Coping Strategies for Life and Academic Challenges: Practical Approaches” by Medoneilie Mechülho, Counsellor at CICS, who offered practical tools for managing stress and academic pressures.
An interactive session allowed students to engage directly with the resource persons. The programme was chaired by Asst. Professor Nievepolu Tetseo, who underscored the need for greater awareness and open dialogue on mental health issues. A prayer led by Rokovituo Yhoshü, Counsellor at CICS, set a reflective tone for the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Holika Yeptho, IQAC Coordinator, and a blessing from Meme Kense, Counsellor at CICS.
