Along with the rest of the country, World No Tobacco Day was observed with the theme, “Tobacco: Threat to our environment” on 31st May 2022 at Loyola Hr. Sec. School Jakhama.

Resource person Maj. Dr. Ashita Mathur Medical Officer, 154 General Hospital Jakhama, while speaking at the program, said that it was important to create awareness of Tobacco. She mentioned that India has one of the highest level of Tobacco consumption with 175 million Tobacco consumers in the world. Adding that Tobacco consumption causes premature death as well as degrades health, money, personal life, and social life. She encouraged the students to abstain from consuming Tobacco and to make every day a World No Tobacco Day.

Earlier, an awareness rally was organized by the school's faculty and students. During the rally, awareness placards were displayed to inform about the adverse effects of smoking or chewing tobacco.

The program was chaired by Tania Ferdous and the welcome address was delivered by Rev. Sr. Sunita AC (Head master). A speech was also delivered by Keneikunu Zhotso, winner of the essay competition organized by District Tobacco Control Cell Kohima.
