The Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, Nagaland, joined the global celebration of World Soil Day on 5th December at its Sub-Divisional office in Chiephobozou, Kohima district. World Soil Day aims to emphasize the significance of healthy soil and advocate for sustainable soil resource management.

 

The event at the SDO (SC) office, Chiephobozou, brought together approximately 80 attendees, including women farmers and SHG members from nearby villages. Rongsenlemzung, Joint Director, served as the key speaker, addressing the theme "Soil and Water, a Source of Life." He highlighted the importance of recognizing soil as a silent hero, essential for our lives, food, and future. Stressing on soil health, he discussed the impact of human activities on soil degradation and emphasized the need for soil testing to optimize crop production.

 

Addl Director & HOD L. Chubaonen emphasized integrated soil and water resource management for sustainable agriculture, underlining that nutritious food and animal fodder depend on healthy soils.

 

Alemyapang Longchar, NCS, ADC, Chiephobozou, commended the department's initiatives within the Sub-Division and encouraged farmer cooperation in training and activities for economic upliftment.

 

On behalf of the farmers, Keneingulie expressed gratitude for the department's active involvement in farming activities, anticipating further engagement.

 

Post-program, a soil testing demonstration in the Mobile Soil Testing Laboratory aimed to raise awareness about soil testing and soil health management.

 

The program, chaired by Litemo Murry, Joint Director, included an invocation by Z. Casavi, SCA, and a vote of thanks by Renthunglo Tungoe, SDO(SC), Chiephobozou.

 

Earlier in the day, the celebration took place at the official residence of Advisor Imkong Imchen, in the presence of the Commissioner & Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Directorate officers.
