Deputy Chief Minister & Minister, Home, Y. Patton flagged off the newly purchased vehicles for District SPs during a function held at Police Headquarters, Kohima on 28th February 2022. Eleven (11) new Mahindra Scorpios will be given to the District SPs and for the remaining newly upgraded districts, procurement is under process, Y. Patton stated.
While stating that mobility and quick response to any situation, are some of the key functions of the Police Department, he expressed hope that with better vehicles now being provided to the SPs, they will lead at the front with alacrity and respond to any situation promptly.
He said that the situation in the State has been largely peaceful, except for the Oting incident on 4th December 2021, for which he assured to provide justice to the innocent lives lost in that carnage. He informed that the investigation by SIT is almost complete, pending a few documentation.
Commending the Nagaland Police for the recent major seizure of smuggled gold of approximately 48 Kgs costing over Rs. 23 crore as per prevailing market rate and the improved detection of drugs, IMFL and contraband seizure being made by Nagaland Police, as a special drive against ‘War on Drugs,’ Patton expressed hope that the fight against drugs and other contraband will continue for the well-being of society and the younger generation. He also stated that special drive will be carried out against extortion more rigorously, adding that Nagaland Police needs to curb the menace of extortion and take stringent actions against anti-social elements on a war footing.
Y. Patton lauded the performance of the IRBs at the recently concluded Punjab election and who are presently deployed in Manipur for the elections. He assured the support of the State Government to the Police Department to ensure law and order and better service delivery to the citizens.
Director General of Police, T. John Longkumer thanked the Deputy Chief Minister for his support to the Department and said that under the Deputy CM’s leadership some of the achievements of the Department in the last three years have been the NPS cadre review and creation of new SP rank officers for the new districts. He stated that Nagaland Police has taken on the role of peacekeepers, adding that anybody who disturbs the peace, and if any harm is done to policemen/women officers, jawans during their discharge of duties, it will be dealt with strictly.
