The two-day long Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, concluded at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on 12th November 2021.
Addressing the gathering, Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Akumla Chuba said that sports is all about the competitiveness and sportsmanship. She added that many have gained experience to be a better sportsman. She thanked all the participants for making the tournament a success and urged the participants to keep on practicing when they go back to become professionals. She stated that each one of them is talented but they need to focus and train well to strife for better.
Chuba informed that the Department will be sponsoring for enrollment at the Athletes Discipline Academy in Dimapur and that the interested candidates may contact their respective district sports officers so that arrangements can be made. She also encouraged all the participants to take part in all the tournaments organised by the Youth Resources & Sports Department in future.
In the boys singles badminton, Esibe (Peren), bagged the top honour while Arkutong (Mokokchung) came in second. In the girls category, A. Ponlih (Mon), won the first place and Imsusenla (Mokokchung) won the second place. In boys doubles badminton, Methiuthun and Kibanghen (Peren) came in first while Hoto H Kinni and Mugha Kinni T (Zunheboto) came in second. In girls doubles, the first place was won by Temennaro and Imsusenla Lkr (Mokokchung) while Subenro M Ngullie and Meyisen Lkr (Dimapur) won the second place.
Dimapur district bagged the first position by winning 5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze followed by Peren who won 4 gold,1 sliver, 3 bronze. Mon district came in third with 3 gold and 3 silver.
A total of 89 boys and 78 girls selected from the 12 districts participated for the top honour in badminton, table tennis and athletics.
