Phom Day is a unique peace day observed by the Phom community on 6th June annually. Phom Day was started on 06th June 1952 under the dynamic leadership of Lt. Hamnyei & Lt. Yongtau and other Phom intellectual leaders from different villages. On these day,they took a pledge to stop headhunting killing and attacking rival villages; this day marks the ending of head hunting era and beginning of new dawn in Phom Land.

Phom leaders gathered at Phom Day Pledge Declaration site at Longleng Town and observed the day with President, Phom People's Council (PPC) M.Shami Angh as Special Guest on 6th June 2021 by maintaining all Covid-19 SOP.

In his Phom Day message, M.Shami Angh said that Phom Day is celebrate as their forefathers who made a wise decision to stop headhunting and choose peace for growth and development. He added that through the peace they obtained, they can live in peace and harmony today. He urged the community to keep peace in the society and to strive to do good and to work for the welfare of the people. Shami Angh also called upon the young educated intellectuals to come forward with dedicated and loving heart to lead the society.

Shami Angh appealed to everyone to stand together with a responsibility in facing the challenge of Covid-19 pandemic with optimism by following all safety Covid-19 Protocols and SOPs. He expressed his gratitude and honoured all the health workers, frontline workers and people who are tirelessly working in fighting the pandemic.
