ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu issued circular for African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention measures as per Chief Veterinary Officer, Chumoukodima dated 25 May 2026 has confirmed that the pig tissue sample collected from the farm of Ward-9, Medziphema Town has tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).
To prevent further spread of the disease and to safeguard public interest and livestock health, immediate containment and preventive measures are required to be enforced In exercise of the powers vested, the following restrictions and containment measures are imposed with immediate effect and until further orders: Containment zone is declared covering:1 (one) kilometre radius from the outbreak epicentre as the "Infected Zone" and 10 (ten) kilometre radius from the outbreak epicentre as the "Surveillance Zone".
There shall be complete ban on transportation of pigs, piglets, pork and pork products from and within the containment zones and Surveillance Zone, slaughter of pigs for commercial or private purposes within the said zones, sale and distribution of pork and pork products within the said zones. Pig farmers and residents are advised to immediately report any unusual sickness or death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary Officer or Department. Disposal of pig carcasses shall be carried out strictly in accordance with the protocols and guidelines prescribed by the Veterinary Department. The Veterinary Department in coordination with law enforcement agencies, shall conduct surveillance and monitoring in the affected areas.
All village authorities, ward authorities, GBs, meat vendors and concerned citizens are directed to cooperate fully with the Veterinary Department and District Administration in surveillance, inspection and containment activities. Any violation of this Order shall invite strict action as per relevant provisions of law and applicable disease control protocol.
