Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, James Swu has issued a circular in view of the reported cases and rumours pertaining to possible outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) within Medziphema Sub-Division, and pending confirmation of laboratory test results, it has become necessary to regulate the slaughter and sale of pigs/pork in the interest of public safety and disease prevention.
It is hereby ordered with immediate effect that no individual, butcher, trader, farmer, or any person shall slaughter any pig for commercial sale or distribution within Medziphema Sub-Division without obtaining prior permission from the District Administration. Any person intending to slaughter a pig for sale shall first report the matter to the office of the undersigned and seek necessary approval.
Verification and inspection of the concerned pig(s) shall be conducted by Kevilelie Keyho, Livestock Inspector VFATI who is the authorized official designated for the purpose, and slaughter shall be permitted only after clearance is accorded.
Sale, transportation, or distribution of pork without such approval and verification shall be treated as violation of this Order and necessary action shall be initiated as per law.
All village authorities, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors and concerned citizens are directed to strictly comply with this Order in the larger interest of public health and animal disease containment.
The Order shall come into force with immediate effect from dated 20th May, 2026 until further notification.
