A historic milestone in emergency healthcare was marked today with the formal launch and flag-off of an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance for Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha. The initiative comes under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) Foundation on 29th May 2026.
General Manager, IRFC, Nav Goel, IRAS, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, he acknowledged that while Wokha may not be widely recognized geographically across India but initiatives such as this bring renewed awareness and support. He highlighted the diverse CSR activities of IRFC in nation-building and infrastructure development, appreciating the CSR team in Wokha and commending Additional Secretary, Vineet Kumar, IAS, for his efforts in bringing such initiatives to ease the lives of citizens.
Guest of Honour, Additional Secretary, Government of Nagaland, Vineet Kumar, IAS, recalled that the initiative began discussions in October 2025. He expressed gratitude to IRFC for approving and financing the project, noting that such CSR interventions unlock new opportunities for society. He emphasized that in emergencies, an ALS ambulance can be decisive in saving lives and thanked the Medical Superintendent of Wokha for facilitating the project.
Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, delivered the welcome address, stressing the urgent need for such an ambulance in the district. He thanked IRFC and Vineet Kumar for their vision, noting that the vehicle would save lives and strengthen medical services in Wokha.
Skill Development Officer Wokha, Anuranjan Singh, highlighted the facilities of the ALS ambulance and its importance in meeting the current healthcare needs of the district. The programme was chaired by Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mhonjan Kithan, and featured a special cultural presentation by Nrung Longidang troupe.
The ALS ambulance, donated by IRFC, is a Tata Advanced Life Support Type-D Ambulance, fully compliant with AIS 125 norms and built on the Tata Winger AMB Type D BS6 8+P platform. Designed as an “ICU on Wheels,” it is equipped with advanced life-saving facilities including jumbo Type-D dual oxygen cylinder support system, ECG machine, blood pressure monitor, suction machine, defibrillator, GPS tracking system, auto-loading stretcher, oxygen delivery system, and IV support hooks.
This initiative, spearheaded by the District Administration under the leadership of Vineet Kumar, IAS, during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner Wokha, reflects a significant step towards improving emergency medical response and ensuring timely healthcare access for the people of this tribal and geographically remote district.
