The Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima, Polan John, has informed all concerned that 9th of April, 2026, polling day for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, will be observed as a paid holiday.
The order has been issued in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to facilitate eligible voters to exercise their franchise. The paid holiday will be applicable to all persons who are registered voters in Assembly Constituencies of Assam and are employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishments and shops within Nagaland, including those working on shift basis, daily wage, or casual employment.
However, the notification clarified that the provision will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged.
All employers have been directed to ensure compliance with the order to enable voters to participate in the democratic process.
