The Civil Defence Volunteers Training Programme commenced at Agriland Building, A.G. Colony, Kohima on 12th December 2025, bringing together volunteers, officials and trainers for the capacity-building initiative.

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS delivered his address, stressing the importance of professionalism in disaster response. He cautioned that “little knowledge can be very dangerous”, emphasising that Civil Defence volunteers serve as a crucial reserve force for the government during emergencies. Sharing recent seismic observations, he noted that a seismic expert at the Mengujuma Railway tunnel site reported more than 46 earthquakes in Kohima within the past year, underscoring the necessity of readiness.

Highlighting the objectives of the programme, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged participants to foster unity, commitment to community service, disaster preparedness, and mutual protection. He reminded volunteers that their role carries significant responsibility and that they remain a strong asset to society. He urged them to give their full dedication to the training, calling it a rare and valuable opportunity.

Earlier, Wopenthung Kikon, District Commandant, delivered the welcome address. The inaugural session was chaired by Sinlo Khing, Company Commander.
