In anticipation of the eviction of illegal encroachments on Dimapur Airport land, the Dimapur Police Commissioner has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The move follows directives from the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland, Kohima, and a Gauhati High Court Principal Bench judgment dated May 27, 2025, in CRP Nos. 104/2024 & 105/2024, as well as a subsequent order from the Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima on June 12, 2025.
Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, citing “reasonable apprehension of resistance or physical obstruction” that could endanger lives, public tranquility, and property, has prohibited assembly of five or more persons and carrying of lethal weapons or dangerous articles (including lathis, daggers, machetes, sticks, spears, catapults).
The ban applies within the area bounded by the Chathe River/Nihoto to the east, the Airport boundary to the west, Ekranipathar to the north, and the Diphupar (173 Battalion CRPF Camp) to the south.
The prohibitory order takes effect at 8:00 PM on June 12, 2025, and will remain in force until 6:00 PM on June 13, 2025, unless lifted earlier. Authorities have urged residents and visitors to cooperate fully to ensure a peaceful and orderly eviction process.
