A Community Ambulance Distribution Programme was held on May 21, 2025, at Neo Motors, Dimapur under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang as the Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir emphasized the importance of unity, humility, and accountability among Naga leaders to foster meaningful change in the state. He called on tribal Hohos, NGOs, and civil society organizations to actively engage with and assign responsibilities to elected representatives to ensure effective participation in Parliament. Highlighting the challenges of an opposition-less government in Nagaland, he said democracy suffers in such a system and urged NGOs to play a guiding and watchdog role.
Jamir also appealed for a collective effort to safeguard Naga identity, culture, and rights while resisting external pressures. He extended his gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, hoho leaders, and vehicle providers, and requested continued support to ensure the smooth functioning of NGO and civil society initiatives.
In his address, Special Guest Dr. Tinojongshi Chang appreciated the MP’s initiative in fulfilling a long-standing community need for ambulances, made possible through MPLADS. Reflecting on his first meeting with the MP during his posting as EAC in 2003, Dr. Chang lauded Jamir’s consistent humility and commitment to public service. He described Dimapur as a “mini Nagaland” and called on all communities in the district to live in unity and cooperation. He assured that the MPLAD-funded ambulances would be used effectively for public welfare and stressed the importance of collective efforts in achieving development goals.
The event was chaired by the District Programme Officer (DPO) Dimapur, N. Chuba Phom, and featured a dedicatory prayer offered by Joikap Phom, Associate Women Pastor of Phom Baptist Attoi, Diphupar.
Four community ambulances were officially handed over to Ao Senden, Mokokchung; Chakhroma Public Organisation, Chümoukedima; Eastern Naga Public Union Dimapur and Western Sumi Hoho, Niuland, Chümoukedima & Dimapur
Representatives of the recipient organizations praised the MP for his grassroots commitment, calling him a leader who “walks the talk.” They noted that the ambulances would significantly improve access to emergency medical care, especially in remote and underserved areas. They also assured responsible and judicious use of the vehicles for the benefit of the community.
The General Manager of Neo Motors also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the company’s commitment to quality service and community support. He highlighted that the company had not received any complaints regarding ambulance services and assured timely support through their dedicated contact team and the “Star Concept” network of local workshops. He advised the use of authorized dealers to avoid counterfeit parts and encouraged consideration of utility vehicles like the “Magic” for difficult terrains.
The ambulance distribution is part of a broader initiative to enhance emergency health response and accessibility across the region.
