Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B Henok Buchem has issued an order stating that in the wake of increasing incidents of forest fires reported from various parts of the district, it has been observed that deliberate or negligent burning of jungle and forested areas has contributed significantly to the spread of such fires resulting in damage of wild life habitat and public property and posing a serious threat to human lives.
It stated that under Section 162 of BNSS, the DC Kohima being satisfied that such acts are public nuisances, likely to cause disturbance to public tranquillity and pose imminent danger to life and property, and therefore, the complete ban on the burning of forest has been reiterated for strict compliance of all concerned.
Any individual/group found violating the above directive shall be liable for prosecution under relevant sections of BNSS, Nagaland Forest Act, 1968 and Rules of Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland, 1937.
