The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services has informed that during this dry and windy season, it has been observed that the rampage indiscriminate burning of forest by hunters, campers, miscreants, etc continue to exist despite the best effort by the Fire Fighter of Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland and village volunteers with the support of the District Administration and Police to counter the forest fire from reaching the residential area.

It is to reiterate that the department cannot attend to all Forest fires unless alarming near the human settlement areas. The State Government, District Administration and Forest Department had been issuing notification from time to time regarding total banning of forest fire and its consequences on the ecological balance.

Hence, the Public and Village Council are requested to take proactive measures to prevent such practice of indiscriminate burning and also impose actions on such miscreants to deter such practice. The state has witnessed 188 cases of Forest fire during the year 2025 with Kohima district alone accounting for 91 cases which is a serious concern.
