The Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, visited Meluri district on 28th March 2025. Addressing the people of Meluri, the Governor emphasized on the region’s bright future and developmental potential. Expressing his happiness on visiting the district, the Governor extended his congratulations to the people and acknowledged the efforts of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for officially inaugurating Meluri district on February 21, 2025.
“Meluri may be the youngest district of our state, but it holds immense promise for a bright future,” the Governor remarked. He described the district as “the Land of Fortunes,” highlighting its rich mineral resources, biodiversity, tourism potential, and scenic beauty.
The proposed inland waterway linking Myanmar’s Chindwin River to Nagaland’s Tizu River is a key development project. According to the Governor, this initiative is expected to serve as a strategic trade link with Southeast Asia, positioning Meluri as an international trade hub. Additionally, the International Trade Centre at Avangkhu will further strengthen the region’s role as Nagaland’s gateway to ASEAN nations.
Governor Ganesan also underscored the state government’s commitment to enhancing road and transport infrastructure, particularly the connectivity between Meluri, the state capital, and Avangkhu, which borders Myanmar. These advancements, he stated, will pave the way for economic growth and better access to essential services.
However, the Governor stressed that infrastructure alone cannot drive progress. “It is the people, their unity, and their collective spirit that turn vision into reality,” he said. He urged citizens, government departments, and organizations to take an active role in ensuring the success of developmental initiatives. Emphasizing the importance of quality education and healthcare, he called for well-equipped hospitals and schools that would nurture future leaders and innovators.
The Governor also appealed for peace and cooperation, urging the people of Meluri to embrace unity and dialogue. “The government heard your call for a separate district and answered it. Now, I appeal to you to heed the government’s call for peace, cooperation, and unwavering dedication to development,” he stated.
Reflecting on the national vision for progress, the Governor reiterated the importance of collective participation in achieving ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047. He encouraged the people of Meluri to set an example by ensuring that security, tradition, and development go hand in hand.
“The whole state and even the country are watching Meluri today,” Governor Ganesan concluded. “Let us show them that our endeavor for peace and equitable development is not just a wish but a reality. Together, let us march towards a more developed Nagaland and India.”
The event marked a significant milestone for the newly established district, with leaders and residents looking ahead to a promising future driven by infrastructure, trade, and community spirit.
During the Governors visit, departmental reports were given by, Medical, PHED, Education, Agriculture and NHIDCL and also held a security coordination meeting at 39 Assam Rifles COB Meluri.
MLA and Advisor for New & Renewable Energy, NSDMA, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe and President, Pochury Hoho also spoke at the programme.
