In pursuance of the direction of the Supreme Court judgement order dated 14. 02. 2026, and in terms of the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules 2021 as notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) under section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986, and in reiteration of the Urban Development Department (GON) Notification No. UDD/7-GEN/07- PWM/2018(Pt.-1), dated Kohima the 17th June 2019, the Home Department directed all the Village authorities of the State of Nagaland to strictly adhere to the guidelines pertaining to Total Ban on Single-Use Plastic'.

1.      Single Use Plastic (SUP) vide UDD Notification Dated 17th June 2019.

· All plastic carry bags with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size.

· Plastic cutleries including plates, cups, forks, spoons, straws etc. shall be prohibited

· Cutlery and other decorative made of Styrofoam (thermocol).

· Polythene

· Nylon

· Poly Vinyl Carbohydrates (PVC)

· Poly Propylene and Poly styrene

2.      Single Use Plastic (SUP) Items vide UDD Notification Dated 6th December 2020.

Use of Flex Banners/Boards/Posters by departments/institutions/Government agencies during functions/Programs.

3.      SUP items vide UDD Notification dated 11th March 2022.

· Ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy Sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration'

· Plates, Cups, Forks, Spoons, Knives, Straws, Trays, Wrappings or Packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarettes packets, plastic or poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) banners less than 100 microns, stirrers.

4.      Plastic item vide UDD Notification dated 29th November 2018.

· Total ban on packaged drinking plastic bottles below 20 liters capacity for meetings, functions, seminars or personal consumptions.

In this regard all the Deputy Commissioners are directed to ensure that the above directives promptly disseminated to the Village authorities for immediate and strict compliance.

The Deputy Commissioners will also take measures for ensuring mandatory collection safe disposal of such banned Single Use Plastic (SUP) waste by all the Village authorities.
