The international Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking was observed at DC’s office Conference Hall, Phek on 26th June 2026. The program was held under the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan -Viksit Bharat ki Pehchaan’ organised by the district Administration Phek and Social Welfare Department in collaboration with ELPIS Society Phek Town and Eureka Life Foundation, Phek.
Deputy Commissioner, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS, in his address stated that if there is drug abuse in the society, there will never be peace and full sense of development in the country. He encouraged the youths to spread awareness on harmful effects of drugs to their society to make Phek a free drug district and be a chain of change and bring a positive change in the society.
Surhoveyi Khesoh program manager, Eureka Life foundation Phek presented on ‘The link between substance use, HIV and community health, said that counsellor services and workers facilities are been well trained in their facilities. He stated that drugs dependence is a very serious health issue, and spoke about the importance of OST which reduces an individual abuse and lowering the risk of overdose abuse. It also plays a crucial role in reducing the transmission of HIV and encouraged to focus more on support rather than punishment
Velato Nienu, President ELPIS Society Phek in his short speech said that every person deserves an opportunity to make positive choices. He also said that recovery is possible when a person is giving hope and encourage to become a community where people feel safe without being fear of rejection and discrimination.
