An initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, was officially launched by Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS on 24th September 2024, at Holy Cross School, Mon. The programme was organised by the District Tobacco Control Cell, Mon.
During the Launching programme, DC Mon expressed his gratitude to the District Tobacco Control Cell for launching Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, in the school. He said, the main aim of the campaign is to target the youth, as the Youth are the most vulnerable. The government of India and the government of Nagaland had more concern for the young people, he added.
He said that tobacco, drugs and liquor consumption are defined as social evil and the chemicals containing narcotics are dangerous for human health. He said educational institutions had the highest contribution in the development of human individuals and society, he asserted that teachers are the role model to the students, as they spend 8 to 9 hours per pay in a school since childhood. Offices like Administration and Police are just to remind them, he said.
He said that social acceptance and individual preference is more important than the institution functioning. He challenged the students, that humans have a limited time in life, your decision will lead you where you will be after 10-20 years. There is no limit to human behaviour. If you can involve yourself, you can develop yourself. Choose to be a part of the civilization and contribute to the civilization. Be strong in your determination and stay away from social evil activities, said the DC.
Dr. Esther Chophy, District Nodal Officer, NTCP Mon Highlighted on the Objectives of the TFYC 2.0 while the Welcome address was delivered by Sabu James, Headmaster, Hol;y Cross School, Mon. Pledge of Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0 was led by Dr. Lihngam Konyak, Jr. Dental Surgeon, DH Mon. The programme was chaired by E. Nyeamying Konyak, Consultant, NTCP Mon.
