On the eve of International Women’s Day, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S. Supongmeren Jamir officially launched the promotional poster for the upcoming Asmita Program during a briefing held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Dimapur, on 7th March 2026.
    The Asmita Program, which stands for Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action, is a flagship initiative aimed at empowering women athletes and promoting sports participation among girls. The main sporting event will be held at Greenwood School Grounds, Dimapur, on March 11, 2026 from the afternoon onwards.
    Speaking during the launch, officials highlighted that the programme seeks to create opportunities for women and young girls to showcase their athletic abilities while encouraging grassroots participation in sports.
    The event will feature high-energy track competitions exclusively for women, including 100 metres and 200 metres sprint races. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and medals, while merit certificates and participation certificates will also be distributed to encourage wider participation among athletes.
    The poster launch programme was attended by several district officials including Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Zakabo V. Rotokha; District Youth Officer, K. Manikanta; Youth Resources Officer, Vineikholie; Executive Engineer PHED, Er. Bendangtola; EAC Imlijungla; and Executive Engineer Power Department, Er. Lhuvoyi, among others.
    During the programme, DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang and ADC, Zakabo Rotokha emphasized the importance of such initiatives in identifying and nurturing local sporting talent. Youth Resources Officer, Vineikholie and District Youth Officer, K. Manikanta also encouraged women and young girls from across the district to participate in the event and display their sporting spirit.
    The Asmita Program is part of a nationwide initiative supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports aimed at building a sustainable sports ecosystem for women and inspiring greater female participation in athletics.
