Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and External Affairs, Government of India, Kriti Vardhan Singh, on 9th February 2026 at BJP’s Office, Kohima, addressed a press conference outlining the key priorities and projected impact of the Union Budget 2026–27.
The Minister stated that in an increasingly multi-polar world, regional priorities have assumed greater significance. He noted that the Budget is designed to sustain a consistent growth trajectory while strengthening regional cooperation with like-minded governments. Emphasis has been laid on economic integration, fostering a competitive workforce, and enhancing India’s global engagement through initiatives such as the Migration and Mobility Agreement.
Highlighting trade and security, Singh said the proposed Free Trade Agreements would focus on facilitating market expansion while moving towards technology-driven border management systems.
The Budget, he added, is anchored around the three ‘Kartavyas’ (duties) outlined by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman — accelerating economic growth, building human capacity, and ensuring inclusive development. Special focus has been placed on empowering youth by generating self-employment opportunities and addressing their aspirations.
Referring to Nagaland, the Minister mentioned the establishment of professional institutions in Tier-1 and Tier-3 categories to strengthen educational and skill infrastructure in the State.
He further stated that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will play a crucial role in driving empowerment, boosting exports, and promoting regional development.
Tourism has also been identified as a priority sector, with a pilot scheme to train 10,000 tourist guides across the country to enhance ecotourism potential. The Budget proposes special attention to the North-Eastern States through the development of five key tourism destinations and the creation of a Buddhist Circuit covering several states in the region. These initiatives aim to promote heritage conservation and improve connectivity.
Additionally, the formation of industrial corridors has been proposed to strengthen infrastructure and accelerate economic growth.
The Minister expressed confidence that the Union Budget 2026–27 would further consolidate India’s growth momentum while ensuring balanced and inclusive regional development.
