The International Border Area People's Welfare Organization (IBAPWO) and Yimkhiung Youth Organization (YYO) in collaboration with 30th Assam Rifles Battalion, Frontal organizations, CRISIL Foundation, State Bank of India (SBI), Pungro Area College Students' Union (PACSU), Pungro Town Students' Union (PTSU), Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL), and Achomang Society celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 at Traffic point, Pungro Town under the theme "Inspired by nature, For climate, For our future" in the presence of administration.
The programme was chaired by Zukhathong N, Centre Manager, CRISIL Foundation, Pungro, invocation was bestowed by Wongkiuba, Youth Director PTBC and a welcome address by Hanso, Vice President YYO.
EAC Khongsa, Pauding Disuang, emphasized the need for every individual to contribute towards environmental conservation by adopting responsible habits. He insisted on viewing environmental protection as a way of life and not merely a social obligation. He also conveyed appreciation to the organizers for their initiative.
Awareness session on waste management was conducted by Pelenuo of Züb Züb India, and vote of thanks by N Apong, Director IBAPWO. Meanwhile Tsukhumla, Women Director PTBC, offered the Benediction. The programme concluded with planting of saplings provided by the Forest Department, Kiphire at designated locations and schools.
Speaking during the waste management meeting held after the social work held at ADC’s office, ADC, Pungro, Hotolu Sema, NCS exhorted the GBs, and ward chairmen of all wards to shed light on the importance and adoption of waste management and segregation within their respective wards and colony.
