Agriculture Production Commissioner, Y. Kikheto Sema visited the food processing center at Mokokchung on 16th September 2020.
APC informed that NSAMB is coming up with an Organic Air Conditioned Market with a 500 MT cold storage, 5 MT reefers vans and trucks, a first of its kind in North East India. He mentioned that objective of this AC market is to bridge the gap between the farmers and the market by creating a stable marketing channels throughout the year.
Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board was officially formed in 2005 for the purpose of creating marketing linkages and channels for Agricultural products in the State. There are 19 Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) located in all the districts where NSAMB officials trained in agricultural marketing are posted as APMC secretary.
Executive Officer NSSMB, Benri Mozhui added that at present APMC Kohima in association with Kohima Municipal co-operation has set up a daily organic market near TCP gate where fresh organic produce from all the neighbouring villages are being collected sold. Also APMC Baghty is carrying out the same in its respective market yard on a weekly basis.
Mokokchung Food Processing unit under NSAMB is funded by NEC has been set up where only organic vegetables and fruits will be used to produce processed food products like pickles, juices etc on a large scale . This Food Processing Unit was set up with the objective to benefit the farmers in and around Mokokchung district.
