ATMA JAKHAMA BLOCK CONDUCTS VARIOUS ACTIVITIES

Under the initiative of DAO, Kohima ATMA Jakhama Block along with DAO field staffs and officers conducted field demonstration at Mima Village on 21st July 2021 under the topic - SRI Nursery Bed preparation and Drought Mitigation through Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) method using Api-seeder with the objective to help the farmers in the wake of deficient rainfall in the state. The SRI nurseries were prepared in order to replace the damaged conventional nurseries which would be transplanted after 10 days with proper irrigation.

On 24th July 2021 Farmer’s Field Day on harvest of millets was conducted by ATMA Jakhama team at Kezoma village. The program was conducted with the objective to acknowledge the indigenous traditional cultivation methods of fox-tail millets as it has been slowly degrading in the state. During the program, the farmers stated that their main aim is to provide local seed variety of fox tail millets to the neighbouring villages so that this tradition is not lost. It was followed by active participation of farmers along with ATMA staffs in harvesting of millets. The field day program was attended by Angela Rokoshuno Zao, DPD ATMA Kohima, ATMA Jakhama Block and 24 farmers.

In another occasion the team also inaugurated Agri- Dairy Farm School at Viswema Village on 28th July 2021 and appointed Notho Angamai as the Farm School Teacher. During the program BTM Jakhama Block in her Key note address highlighted on the aims and objectives of a farm school as well as duties and responsibilities of a farm school teacher. The newly appointed Farm school teacher also gave a brief experience about his farm, difficulties faced and also on its benefits.

ATMA Jakhama Block also conducted field demonstration on operation of cono-weeder at SRI farm School Kigwema village on 29th July 2021 where the team helped the farmers in weeding the paddy field with the help of Cono weeders which were distributed by DAO, Kohima. The farmers were happy with the latest technology and expecting a good yield even in the current year.
