The Block Level Health Mela for Kohima district concluded on 30th April 2022 with health mela at Chedema Health and Wellness Centre, Kohima. The health mela was organised in commemoration of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organised by the District Health Society Kohima, Department of Health & Family Welfare (NHM) and supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
MLA, Khriehu Liezietsu in his speech said that as part of one year celebration of 75th years of India's Independence, India is celebrating 75 weeks by organising various activities across the country. Likewise, he said that the Kohima District Health Society had organised the health melas in all the district blocks which culminated with Chedema HWC and thanked the District Health Society for their efforts in organising such mela for the people of the district.
Liezietsu said, Nagas have come a long way since the attainment of its Statehood, however awareness on health and wellness still needs to be sensitised amongst the people of rural areas. He therefore hoped that through the health mela, the people would be well-informed about the health issues and grab the opportunity and avail the health care services and be benefited.
Stating that Health is Wealth, which money cannot buy, the MLA urged the gathering to share the knowledge and the benefits gained through the health mela to follow friends and neighbours and wished them good health in future.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, IAS who is also the Chairman of District Health Society said that a number of programmes and events have been organised in the State and at district levels to commemorate the year-long celebration of 75th years of India's Independence.
In order to take forward the North East States to be at par with rest of the country, Gregory informed that a weeklong celebration of North East Festival under various theme for all North Eastern States was started on 28th April, where Nagaland state will be celebrating at Agri Expo, Dimapur with the theme 'Organic Farming' on 2nd May 2022.
Gregory also said that the health mela was organised as part of the celebration and called upon the gathering to avail the health services in various fields provided by the medical and line departments at their doorsteps. He urged the gathering to join hands with the Government and to march forward for the interest of the public in future.
Chairman VHC, Chedema, Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John thanked the medical and line departments for bringing such programme for the people of Chedema village and said that their present was not only a blessing but a healing to the village.
CMO Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo while chairing the programme said that the National Health Mission (NHM) has been contributing in transforming the health care facilities, the services and strengthening the health care infrastructure in effective manner. She said that one of the intervention in the direction is organisation of health melas where information on the wellness, behaviour, preventive measures for diseases along with the health care services for early detection and treatment of diseases have been found to be popular amongst the masses.
The CMO said that the mela was a platform to offer a bouquet of health services free of cost and to enhance the awareness on different schemes which exist in the government through convergence action of various departments.
The in-charge of the Health and Wellness Centre Chedema, Dr. Medotseio Whuorie highlighted the key health services that were available and provided to the patients during the mela. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dy. CMO Kohima, Dr. Khriesilie Sachü.
