CELEBRATION OF POSHAN ABHIYAAN AND KISAN GOSTHI AT WOKHA

Under the initiative of ICAR-KVK and Indian Farmers Fertilizer cooperative limited, a programme on Poshan Abhiyaan and Kisan Gosthi was held at VDB Hall, Wokha on 17th September 2020. It was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha on the theme “Balance diet, Healthy Life.

Medical Officer (Ayush) Dr. Zechano Ezong, stressing on the theme stated that good nutrition is one of the key components to a healthy life, a balanced diet gives body the nutrients it needs to function and for the growth and development of the body. She emphasized on the intake of daily calories that contains vitamins and minerals such as fruits, vegetables whole grains dairy to live a healthy and happy life. She also added that a balanced diet is an important step towards a happy and healthy life style, as a healthy diet can protect the human body against certain types of diseases.

District Project Assistant, Poshan Abhiyaan, Wokha, Annie Lotha, while highlighting on poshan Abhiyaan, said this programme started in the year 2018 but in Nagaland it was implemented only last year. Poshan Abhiyaan in short is a National nutrition mission to eradicate malnutrition, stunted growth, low birth rate and anemia by 2022. It targets the age group of 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. It is a multi convergence programmed under the government of India stated Annie.

She also informed that so far under poshan maah 2020 Wokha district has reached 170 activities under 5 block levels and the participants have crossed the mark of 7k and ranks above average among the other districts of Nagaland. Emphasizing on the importance of kitchen garden, she said it is an essential need now because the vegetables and fruits we buy from bazaars are all for mass production and it has harmful chemicals and fertilizers which is harmful for our body. This pandemic has taught us the importance to rely more on our organic products than to rely on the markets, she added.

Later in the technical session, TO (Food Technology), Thunbgchano S Ezung dwelled on the topic Nutritional garden, Women Welfare Officer, Dr.Wonchano Enny spoke on Nutri-Thali and ACTO (Horticulture) highlighted on Bio fortified varieties.

40 Anganwadi Workers and 60 farming women’s took part in the programme, varieties of nutritional garden kit/ seedling were distributed to all the participants.
