Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Phek, Kumar Ramnikant IAS, vide his office letter/press release dated Phek, the 22nd February 2023 has notified for information to all concerned that as per Section 126 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the campaigning period for General Election to the 14th NLA 2023 shall come to an end by 4:00 PM on 25th February 2023, and there is a prohibition of public meeting during forty-eight hours ending with hour fixed for conclusion of the poll shall:-
- Convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election;
- Display to the public any election matter using a cinematograph, television, or other similar apparatus; or
- Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of any musical concert or theatrical performance, or any other entertainment or amusement to attract the members of the public.
That any person who contravenes the said provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or five years, or a fine, or both. That all political functionaries shall leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over except the office bearers of the political party who is in charge of the District. That office bearer of the political party shall declare his place of stay in the District Headquarters and his/her movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of stay, the press release stated.
