In view of the onset of the monsoon season and the forecast of heavy rainfall in the coming days, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, has issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution and strictly adhere to safety guidelines to prevent monsoon-related disasters.

            The advisory cautions the public against venturing near riverbanks, overflowing drains and streams during the rainy season. Citizens have also been advised to avoid all non-essential travel during torrential rainfall and to refrain from using vulnerable road stretches and highways during cloudbursts and thunderstorms.

            The DDMA has further urged people to stay away from landslide-prone areas and unstable riverbanks, regularly monitor weather forecasts, and follow advisories issued by the district administration and other competent authorities.

            The public has also been requested to cooperate with authorities during any disaster situation and to refrain from spreading unverified information or rumours.

            In case of emergencies, landslides, disaster incidents or persons in distress, the public has been advised to immediately contact the nearest Administrative Office, Police Station or Village Council, or reach the DDMA Kohima at 9436282824 or 9436449770.

            The advisory has been issued in the interest of public safety, and the district administration has appealed to all residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions throughout the monsoon season.
