In pursuance of the approval of the Government of Nagaland, Home department letter NO.HOME/VC/ELECTION/2005(Pt)/442 dated Kohima, the 5th March 2021 and in exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 3 of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Rules, 1979 and in accordance with the Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Act, 1978, Deputy Commissioner Kohima Gregory Thejawelie NCS having regard to the general interest of the people has issued notification declaring dissolution of all the Village Councils of the recognised Villages under Kohima district with immediate effect.
Further, all the recognised Villages have been informed to form new Village Council for the current tenure by selecting/electing their Village Council members of their respective villages in accordance with the prevailing customary practices and usages as provided for in the Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Rules, 1979 and Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Act, 1978.
In pursuance of section 6(a) such a Village Council duly formed under this Act shall continue for 5(five) years unless otherwise dissolved by the Government of Nagaland. The whole process of selection of the VCM should be completed on or before 31st March, 2021.
