In pursuance of the standing instruction of the Election Commission of India contained vide Order No. 434/1/E502/94 MCS dated 24/10/1994 and letter No. 434/1/98/PLN- III dated 10/1/1998, the Government of Nagaland has designated all officers and ranks of Nagaland Police from Director General/ Additional Director General/DIG/Commissioner of Police under whose jurisdiction the assembly constituencies going for bye election fall and all Police officers below them, including Home Guard, Village Guard as election related officials for the purpose of Section 28 A of the Representation of People Act 1951, with effect from the date of Notification for election till the completion of the Bye Election to 14-Southern Angami-1 (ST) AJC and 60-Pungro - Kiphire (ST) A/C.

The police official as stated above who are involved in any way in election related arrangement and perform duties in connection with the conduct of the Bye Election to 14- Southern Angami-1 (ST) AC and 60-Pungro-Kiphire (ST) AC, are by law, officers of Election Commission, being deemed to be on deputation to it, and are subject to its control, superintendence and discipline and as such are answerable to the Election Commission for any acts of commission or omission on their part while performing any election related duties.
