On 8th March 2021, International Women's Day was celebrated at PHQ, Kohima Nagaland. T.John Longkumer IPS, Director General of Police, Nagaland graced the occasion as the Special Guest. Temjensenla, AIG (P) presided over the function. The keynote address on this year's UN theme Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid -19 World was delivered by Roopa M, DIG (CID/HR&SJ).
Imcharenla IPS, DIG (NAP), the first female NPS Officer; Kahuli Sema, the first female Chief Engineer (PEP) Shevotsono Kikhi, Insp. (INT); Sashitula, O.S. (Supply) shared their experiences. Imcharenla shared her experiences and how she petitioned to the NPSC and the then Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister and took up the matter personally with them to allow female candidates to apply for the post of Dy.S.P. which only male candidates could apply. Kahuli Sema also shared her experiences on how she overcome the challenges faced by her to be a leader in her own field.
On this occasion, DGP awarded 7 female staff- Executive as well as Non- Executive from PHQ, IGP (INT) and NPTO establishments with Certificate of Commendation and Cash Reward for their exemplary work and the service rendered to the department.
The seven recipients are;

2. Hav.Uma Tamang, attached to R.O. Branch PHQ.
3. K.Alila Jamir, UDA Accountant IGP (INT) establishment.
4. Neilakienuo, Asstt. Office Supdt. (Training Branch) PHQ.
5. Aojungla Ozukum, Constable Operator (NPTO)
6. Jongshienla, LDA, Branch-II PHQ.
7. Imnasenla, LDA- Cum-Computer Assistant, attached to ADGP (Adm.)
Speaking on the occasion T.John Longkumer, DGP highlighted that along with legal reforms, there is a need for change in mindset which should start from the family first since it is the basic unit of any society in order to bring in change in the society and to ensure gender equality. He acknowledged the contribution of women in shaping his life. He stressed on the need for equal share for women in the acquired properties and informed that the Government is contemplating to bring in legislation in this regard. On the theme of this year's International Women's Day #Choose To Challenge, he stressed that the theme simultaneously also apply to men to accept the Challenges chosen by Women and also asked them to choose to challenge and call out against gender bias and inequality for creating an inclusive world. He acknowledged the contribution of women police to the society at large. He extended his heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the women on the occasion.
The Mahila band from 15th IR Mahila Battalion also performed on the occasion. The programme ended with vote of thanks from Munesh IPS, ASP (Crime).
