The District Task Force meeting on National Immunization Day (IPPI) was held with the Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS at his office chamber in Kohima on 24th June 2026.

The meeting deliberated on several key public health issues, including biomedical waste management, fire safety compliance in health facilities, disaster preparedness, maternal and neonatal health, and immunization activities.

During the discussion, concerns were raised regarding the disposal of biomedical waste in Kohima. The DC stressed the need for a uniform and sustainable waste management strategy across all health facilities and directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Superintendent (MS) to formulate a concrete action plan. He noted that accountability for compliance with waste management regulations has become stricter following directives from the Supreme Court. He also informed that the solid waste management at Lerie will soon be activated again.

Health officials also highlighted gaps in fire safety infrastructure and disaster management training, particularly in district health facilities and Naga Hospital, and also water supply, power back up and equipment. The DC assured that the district administration would explore possible interventions and support, including mobilizing resources through initiatives wherever feasible.

The meeting further reviewed maternal and neonatal mortality cases, emphasizing the importance of institutional deliveries, antenatal care, and timely referral services. Officials also requested support for making life-saving medicines, such as surfactants used for premature newborns, more accessible under government health schemes.

On National Immunization Day, DPO RMNCAH+N, Kohima Dr. Khrielhoukho Nakhro informed the meeting that the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme will be conducted across Kohima district on June 28 from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The DC directed all subdivisions and concerned departments to extend necessary support to ensure successful implementation of the campaign.

Concluding the meeting, the DC reiterated the importance of inter-departmental coordination and assured continued administrative support to address challenges faced by the health sector, stating that Kohima must lead by example in implementing government programmes and public health initiatives.
