Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan visited Shamator district and held meeting with Government Officials and Civil Society Organizations at District DB’s Customary Court, Shamator on 10th May 2023.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor Ganesan said inspite of many challenges like financial implications, Shamator district was created for the people of Yimkhiung and Tikhir tribes to bring governance and administration closer to the people of Shamator for peace and development. He urged the two communities of Yimkhiung and Tikhir tribes to forget and forgive past issues and conflicts because peace is required for growth and progress of the society, and said that there should be equitable share in all the development activities irrespective of village, area, clan and tribe.
The Governor said elementary education is a constitutional right and no child should be left behind, stating that the literacy rate of Shamator district is 66.25 % which is the lowest percentage in the State, and urged the gathering to put extra efforts to provide proper education. Ganesan also urged the Government Officials to put efforts in providing basic necessities for the benefit of the people like education, drinking water, health, good roads and banking facilities.
Earlier, the Governor held an interaction with the Civil Society Organizations and Heads of Offices.
The programme was attended by District Administration, Heads of Offices and various civil societies, namely YTC, TTC, YAA, TSU, YWO, TWA, District DBs Association, Shamator Chamber of Commerce, Shamator Town Public Forum, Shamator Students’ Union, Area Gaonburas’ Association. The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Shamator, Thuvisie Phoji.
