With the rest of the country, the 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Meluri local ground with Advisor New & Renewable Energy & NSDMA Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National flag followed by national anthem recited by Government higher secondary School Meluri. The chief guest delivered the Independence Day speech and administered the Drug free pledge to all the gatherings. He also took Rashtriya Salute comprising of the VGs of Akhegwo, VGs pipe band Meluri, Government Hr. Sec. School, Meluri, Christian Hr. Sec. School,  NCC girls of Christian Hr. Sec. School Meluri, St. Xavier Hr. Sec.School Meluri and NCC girls of St. Xavier Hr Sec. School, Meluri. 

The parade was led by ABSI, Jonny Chakhesang F’Coy, 5th NAP Meluri and Hav Pongrhong Konyak F’Coy 5th NAP Meluri as the first and second commander of the parade contingents.

The highlight of the day includes folk Dance by Riehuope village cultural troupe (women) and cultural fusion by Christian Hr. Sec. School, Meluri. The Chief Guest also inaugurated CCTV at police station Meluri and exhibition stall displayed by Agri and Allied department, Forest Department, St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School, Meluri, Disabled people organization and NSRLM, Meluri block.

Around five thousand people witness the celebration, including all the Government employees, students and public of Meluri Town.
