A programme for unveiling of the Campaign medal was held on the 16th November 2024 at the Nagaland State Museum, Directorate of Art and Culture, Kohima, Nagaland. The programme was chaired by Talitemjen, Guide Lecturer and a short address was delivered by Kovi Meyase, Secretary, Department of Art and Culture.
Charles Chasie, A Prominent Author, Independent Researcher, Documentary Filmmaker and Journalist donated the Campaign Medal to the Nagaland State Museum which is now permanently displayed at the Nagaland State Museum, Directorate of Art and Culture for public viewing. He briefed the gathering regarding the significance of the campaign medal and also its journey and said, he was very keen for the “NAGA 1879-80” Medal to be housed in the State Museum so that Nagas, especially the younger generation can learn the history of their people and be proud of who they are.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Director Art and Culture, Adela Moa.
The Artefact on display is the Campaign Medal, which was awarded for campaign activity during the Battle of Khonoma in 1879-80. Sepoy Lall Singh Raie of the 44th Gurkha Regiment, later on the 8th Gurkha Rifles, received this medal for his valiant actions at the Battle of Khonoma (1879-80).
