The Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with M/s Green Cascade, Mokokchung, successfully organized a citrus sapling distribution programme at the Horticulture Farm, Yisemyong under Mokokchung district on 30th May 2025.

The event was graced by Ayieno Hibo, Director of Horticulture, as the Chief Guest. In her address, Hibo highlighted the department’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the farming community. She noted that the initiative not only promotes commercial citrus cultivation but also reinforces the department’s dedication to serving farmers. The Director emphasized that the department’s doors are always open for farmers, encouraging them to approach the department for support. She further expressed hope to witness the progress of farmers, emphasizing that the department’s success is inherently tied to the success of the farming community.

In his speech, the District Horticulture Officer, Mokokchung, Dr. B Temjenmenla appreciated the contribution of M/s Green Cascade, Mokokchung in providing free citrus saplings to farmers from Longleng and Mokokchung district. She commended this generous gesture, expressing hope that the saplings distributed today will bear fruits in the coming years, positively impacting the farmers’ livelihoods and the region’s horticultural growth.

The representative from M/s Green Cascade Mokokchung, shared insights into the benefits of citrus cultivation. He emphasized that the main idea behind the saplings distribution initiative is to encourage farmers to enhance their livelihoods. He urged the farming community not to limit their interactions with the department to seeking subsidies but also to seek technical knowledge and guidance, which are essential for sustainable farming progress.

A key highlight of the programme was the distribution of thousands of high-quality Khasi mandarin citrus saplings to 120 participating farmers from Longleng and Mokokchung. The initiative, aimed at promoting commercial citrus cultivation, is expected to significantly benefit horticultural development and rural livelihoods across the region.

The event also served as a vital platform for farmer engagement and knowledge sharing in horticultural practices, underscoring the collaborative efforts of the department, private stakeholders, and the farming community.
