Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Conducts Site Visit at Pfutsero, Phek District on 26th May, 2026.
The Committee on Environment and Climate Change of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat was led by the Chairmanship, Achumbemo Kikon, MLA accompanied by its members; MLA & Advisor, Zhaleo Rio; MLA, Y. Mankhao Konyak; MLA, A. Pongshi Phom; MLA, Dr. Neisatuo Mero; and MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso conducted an official site visit to Pfutsero Town under Phek District to inspect and review matters relating to environmental management, developmental activities, and civic administration.
As part of the visit, the Committee inspected the Pfutsero Town Council dumping site to assess the existing waste management system and the environmental challenges associated with solid waste disposal in the area. During the inspection, discussions were held on the need for scientific waste management practices, proper sanitation measures, and sustainable environmental protection initiatives to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for the public.
The Committee also visited the Mountain Radar System site at Glory Peak, where members were briefed on the installation and related infrastructural and environmental considerations. The Committee also interacted with representatives of the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chakhesang Mothers' Association and Pfutsero Town Mothers' Association.
Following the site inspections, an interaction meeting was held with the Town Councillors of Pfutsero Town Council. During the meeting, various civic and environmental issues concerning the town were discussed in detail. The Councillors highlighted key challenges faced by the town, which requires government attention and support.
The Committee Members appreciated the efforts of the Pfutsero Town Council and encouraged continued cooperation among government departments, local authorities, and the public in addressing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable development practices.
