The department of Fire & Emergency Service has informed in a press release that during this dry windy season, rampage indiscriminate burning of forest by hunters, campers, miscreants etc. continue to exist despite the best effort rendered by the Fire Fighter of Fire and Emergency Services Nagaland and village volunteers with the support of the District Administration and Police to counter the forest fire from reaching the residential area.

The department reiterated that, it cannot attend to all Forest fire unless alarming near the human settlement areas. The State Government, District Administration and Forest Department had been issuing notification from time to time regarding total banning of forest fire and its consequences on the ecological balance. The department therefore appealed to the Public and Village Council to take proactive measures to nab the culprit and impose action on miscreants as per law. So far the state has witness 114 cases of Forest fire within a span of 2 & ½ months (approx.) with Kohima district alone accounting for 67 cases which is a serious concern, it stated.
