A review meeting of the District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima on 27th February 2025, was to assess the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Kohima district.

 During the meeting, the concerned department gave a presentation highlighting the ongoing initiatives under JJM and SBM (G). It was reported that out of the 62 villages under JJM in Kohima district, 32 have successfully completed their projects. In terms of SBM (G), 40 out of the 63 habitations have been declared Model Villages. The department clarified that for a village to be recognized as a Model Village, every household must have a compost pit, a task to be undertaken by the Rural Development department. Currently, eight villages in Kohima district have been officially certified as Model Villages.

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Kumar Ramnikant urged all participating departments to extend their full cooperation in implementing JJM effectively. He emphasized the importance of waste management at the village level, encouraging the practice of waste segregation and the need to spread awareness about proper waste disposal.

He stressed the need for collective efforts to intervene at all levels and work towards transforming more villages into Model Villages, reinforcing the district’s commitment to providing clean water and sanitation for all.
