In continuation of the Nagaland Government's War against Drugs, the Police department conducted a press conference with the media house on NDPS (Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances) on 5th February, 2025 at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chumoukedima.

The press conference was chaired by IGP (CID) Nagaland, Vikram Khalete, IPS, Where in his address stated that the growing concern of drug trafficking and its impact on State security, has put Nagaland police to make a Statewide efforts to combat the menace of widespread availability, usage of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances and to prevent and deter its entry, intensive checking of vehicles (MVCP), raids and checking of hotels, restaurants, etc, launched to prevent any such illegal activity.

He highlighted that In the Year 2024, total No. Of Case registered were 199, Total No. of Persons arrested 343; Seizure made in the year 2024- Ganja- 545 kgs 355 gms 64 mg, value -Rs.2,72.68.070; Opium-1010 kgs 919 gms, Rs.47,51,31,930; Heroin-15 kgs 211 gms 318 mg, Rs 53,23,85,000; Brown sugar kg 993 gms 728 mg, Rs.7,97,49,120; Crystal Meth-694 gms, Rs.4,16,40,000; Yaba-57794 nos, Rs.2,31,17,600; Synthetic drugs-191956, Rs.38,39,120; Cough syrup-17290, Rs.5187000. The Nagaland Police have also proposed and put traffickers/suppliers of Narcotic substances under PITNDPS Act 1988, during the last years. In 2023 Male- 08, Female 04, 2024- Male- 28, Female 19 and in January, 2025 Male- 0, Female -1.

Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie also highlighted that the Nagaland Police have recovered and seized drugs worth more than Rs. 8 crores 31 lakhs 25 thousand (approx) dieting the last 2 (two) weeks of January 2025. The following seizures, arrest and registration of the NDPS were- case registered 7, persons arrested Male- 14, Female- 4, Heroines seized were 203 soap boxes weighing 2 kg 375 gms. Further, investigation has revealed that the drug trafficking flows have inter-state and international dimensions with linkages reaching up to Assam and even other parts of the country.

Nagaland Police appeals to the general public to provide information of sale/ distribution of any form of Narcotics/ Drugs/IMFL etc, to the nearest Police Station or Narcotic Police Station, PHQ with assurance that the identity of the informant shall be kept confidential.

ACP, CMD, Ninoto I. Zhimomi, gave a brief report on drug seizure, where he informed that on 28th January, 2025, a Mobile Unit Party of Narcotic PS was set up and detailed for MVCP duty/interception of vehicle in connection with Narcotic PS GDE No 03. While discharging its duty on National Highway 29 near T-Khel Model Village gate junction Kohima, at around 1430. PM, one vehicle-Maruti Alto proceeding from Manipur was halted for checking. On halting, the vehicle was then thoroughly checked during which suspected narcotic drugs (heroin) packed in 50 (fifty) soap boxes were found concealed inside a dummy compartment constructed attached with the fuel tank of the vehicle

The total weight of the suspected seized contraband was 509 grams (Approx) with an estimated value of Rs. 35630000- (Three Crores Fifty-Six Lakhs Thirty Thousand), in street markets. The contraband was serially marked, packed and sealed. The procedure of search and seizure were conducted under videography in the presence of independent witnesses. Having reasonable grounds to believe that the accused person has committed an act in contravention to the provisions of NDPS Act, a case was registered at Narcotic PS, PHQ.

The police department informed that on their part they are putting immense efforts to combat by taking measures and putting the system in place to analyse and operate in real time, and appealed to the people to come forward and work on it to combat drug trafficking.
