In view of the casual vacancies that have occurred under Ward 11 of Chumoukedima Town Council, Ward 8 of Wokha Town Council, and Ward 9 of Atoizu Town Council, the State Election Commission has announced that fresh election to fill the vacancies will be held, the election programme of which was notified on 15th May 2026.

The Commission announced that the Polls will be held on 16th June 2026 and the results declared on 19th June 2026.

The training for the Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, and District Level Master Trainers have been conducted. Election Observers shall be deployed to the Town Councils to assist in the conduct of free and fair elections. Additionally, other necessary institutional measures are being put in place for a smooth election process.

The State Election Commissioner requested all the election officials, including security personnel, to be engaged for the ensuing bye-elections to discharge their roles with professional commitment to ensure that the bye-election is conducted in a free and fair manner.

While acknowledging the important role of the electors, the State Election Commissioner appealed to all the concerned electors to exercise their franchise to make the election participatory and meaningful. He also appealed to the political parties, candidates, various civil society organizations and stakeholders to extend their cooperation towards a peaceful and smooth election process.
