The 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) was celebrated with a State Level Programme on January 25, 2025, at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Seithekema. The event was held under the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure,” aimed to promote electoral participation and raise awareness about the importance of voting.

The event was graced by Thavaseelan K, IAS, Principal Director of School Education, Nagaland as the special guest, Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the importance of youth participation in the electoral process and its role in strengthening democracy.

Thavaseelan emphasized that the Lok Sabha elections are the cornerstone of the Indian Constitution, being the largest democratic exercise. He urged the youth to recognize the power of their vote, stating, “Every single vote has the potential to accelerate the democratic process. It is crucial not to be influenced by external pressures and to vote responsibly.”

He also encouraged young voters to set an example by motivating their family members to participate in elections, fostering a culture of active citizenship. The event underscored the need to educate first-time voters and empower them to make informed decisions.

While following the detailed perspective on the background of NVD, DC & DEO of Chümoukedima, Polan John highlighted the vital role of young voters in strengthening democracy.

In his speech, Polan John stressed the importance of recognizing the youth’s potential in shaping the nation’s future through active voting. “It is crucial to encourage the young generation who are eligible to vote, motivate first-time voters, and empower the young minds of our society to take part in the democratic process,” he stated.

The event also focused on spreading awareness about voter registration and the significance of choosing the right leaders. Polan John acknowledged the efforts of the Election Department and various stakeholders, including educators and law enforcement, in ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.

The programme showcased glimpses of the Election Department in Nagaland and featured short speeches by Dr. Rudowhelie Peseyie, Vice Principal of Patkai Christian College, where he said that

Vyasan R, IAS Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland in his short speech at the event, commended the intention behind hosting the celebration at Patkai, highlighting its significance in engaging the younger generation. He stressed that the nation’s future is in safe hands when the youth understand the value of voting and take responsibility in choosing their leaders wisely.

Vyasan also shed light on the extensive preparations undertaken by the Election Department to ensure smooth elections, mentioning the collaborative efforts of various departments. He acknowledged the crucial roles played by teachers and police personnel in the pre-election bonding process, ensuring an inclusive and transparent electoral framework.

The celebration concluded with a call to action for young voters to participate actively in the democratic process and contribute to a stronger, more accountable governance system.

The Message of the Chief Election Commissioner of India was also highlighted by Rajvi Kumar during the event.

A special musical performance was presented by Mr. Otto Yepthomi, winner of the online Solo Singing Contest. The ceremony included the presentation of awards and the felicitation of first-time voters by the special guest.

The NVD Pledge was administered, emphasizing the commitment to strengthening democracy. A special presentation was also delivered by the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Patkai Christian College.

The event concluded with Kewongkhum Yimchunger who served as the compere for the programme and a welcome address by Awa Lorin, Additional Chief Electoral Officer, a vote of thanks by Ailia Chang, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer. A group photograph with awardees and first-time voters marked the finale of the celebration. This initiative reinforced the importance of active voter participation and strengthened the democratic process in Nagaland and the playing of the National Anthem
