The resource person for the training Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Wokha and Consultant of Tepzen Agro Food & Farm Tech focused on the appropriate approaches and methods to ensure sustainability of pig and poultry farming in Nagaland, highlighting the State’s vast potential in this sector. Noting that Nagaland is one of the largest importers of pork in India, he emphasized the need to scale up local production by integrating scientific techniques with traditional practices. He also stressed the importance of selecting right breeds based on the specific objectives of the farm. Furthermore, Dr. Tep provided in depth guidance on the economics of pig and poultry farming, sharing well-researched data and detailed profit and expenditure calculations from Tepzen farms. Additionally, he encouraged farmers to adopt timely vaccination practices of pigs, poultry and local chicken and underscored the critical role of strict biosecurity measures, especially in the light of the ongoing threat posed by African Swine Fever (ASF).
The program drew an enthusiastic response with over 120 women farmers from Niropen colony and the nearest village, Longsa. As a gesture of support and motivation for the local farmers, free Tepzen chicken feeds and chicks were distributed to all the participants.
