A day long training programme on the topic “Your Pond’s Health is Your Wealth: Best Practices in Pond Management” for 40 fish farmers was inaugurated on 14th May 2026, at the Community Hall, Beisumpuikam Village, a model village adopted by the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Peren.
Addressing the farmers, the District Fishery Officer, C. Dory Yanthan stated that the training is being taken up under Extension and Training, State Plan (2025-26). She stressed that investment is key to boosting fish growth, noting that fish farming is a business which requires strategic investment in quality seed, feed, and healthy pond. The DFO urged greater youth involvement in aquaculture to ensure continuity of fish farming in the district.
During the inaugural session, Neimelu Noswe, sensitized the participants on National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) and KCC loan Scheme. The Department also distributed Water testing kits to the participating farmers.
The Village Council Chairman, Beisumpuikam, Tadibe Zeliang lauded the initiative of the Department of Fisheries and thanked the DPDB Peren for adopting the village as a model village.
The training continued with sessions by resource persons, C Dory Yanthan, DFO and Chubatemjen, AFI, covering best practices in Pond Management, Composite Fish Culture, Economics of Fish Culture, Composite Fish Culture, and field demonstrations.
