The Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland, will observe International Museum Day 2026 at the State Museum, Kohima on 18th May in line with the global initiative of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
The theme for International Museum Day 2026 is "Museums Uniting a Divided World", highlighting the role of museums in promoting cultural dialogue, preserving identity, encouraging knowledge-sharing, and fostering peace and harmony among diverse communities.
To mark the occasion, the Department has announced free entry for all visitors to the State Museum, Kohima on 18th and 19th May 2026. Students, scholars, researchers, educational institutions, tourists, and the general public are invited to visit the Museum and experience the rich cultural heritage, traditional artefacts, and historical collections preserved there.
The observance aims to encourage greater public engagement with museums and create awareness about the importance of preserving and promoting Nagaland’s Cultural Heritage for future generations.
