The World Oral Health Day was observed at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Shamator with EAC Mekato J Aye as the Chief Guest on 20th March 2026. The programme witnessed participation from ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and students.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of oral health in ensuring a healthy and happy life. He stated that oral health is not limited to dental care alone but is an essential part of overall hygiene, noting that the human mouth houses more than 700 types of bacteria. He emphasised the need for regular care and timely intervention so that minor issues do not develop into expensive treatments due to delay.
He further remarked that while dental care is expensive in many parts of the world, studies indicate that in India, it is largely ignorance and delay affecting more than half of the population. Highlighting that India is often regarded as a hub for affordable oral healthcare, he urged the public to make use of the available opportunities for timely care.
The Chief Guest also informed that under the “Governance to the Doorstep” initiative, the District Administration, in collaboration with Medical Officer, Dr Ezra and CHC staff, has covered more than 20 villages in 2025 through dental awareness and free care services, and expressed hope to continue the initiative in the coming years.
He encouraged students and participants to become agents of change in society, stressing that dental problems should not be accepted as a part of daily life but addressed promptly. He reiterated that the mouth is the gateway to the body, influencing overall health and well-being.
The programme aimed at creating awareness on oral hygiene and promoting preventive healthcare practices among the community.
