Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio highlighted the state’s continued focus on Agri and Allied sectors while delivering the Republic Day speech at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on 26th January 2026. He stated that the Agriculture Department has engaged AG Horizon Pvt. Ltd as Programme Management Unit & Consultancy (PMU &C) to spearhead proper implementation of various initiatives taken by the Department and for identification and formulation of projects.
The Chief Minister informed that under PM-KISAN, more than 2.38 lakh farmers have been benefitted and an amount of over 763 crore has been directly credited in their individual bank accounts. The State is also implementing National Mission on Natural Farming since 2024-25 to promote nature based and sustainable farming system through enhanced use of on farm produced bio inputs.
Dr. Rio said that the Horticulture Department under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2025-26, could ensure area expansion of 1290 hectare for various horticultural fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices crops, aromatic & medicinal plants and under RKVY during 2025-26, it is planned for establishment of apple processing unit, low-cost oyster mushroom unit and for enhancing livelihood through cultivation of GI tagged crop Tree Tomato.
As part of the nationwide efforts in conserving natural resources, enhancing sustainable livelihoods and promoting community participation in watershed development under PMKSY-WDC 2.0, the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA) under Land Resources Department organized the Watershed Mahotsav Campaign 2025 at Kohima and the Agency has also achieved inventorization of 7369 springs covering 1318 villages in Nagaland, the CM stated. He added that the Department of Soil & Water Conservation during 2025-26 under the Soil Health and Fertility component of RKVY has inaugurated 12 (twelve) Biofertilizer production units along with 1(one) Command and Control Center at the Directorate.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services is carrying out mass vaccination of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD) with a target of vaccinating 60,000 bovine population under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) and is also establishing 9 (nine) units of Meat Production Unit for production of Pork through rearing of Finisher. He said that the Fisheries Department under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is taking up development of another 10 hectare water bodies along with input support. Under NEC, the Department will be implementing Table Fish Production Farm to efficiently develop the unutilized areas for augmenting fish and fish seeds production in the State.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Sericulture Department is taking up development of Eri Silkworm rearing in the districts of Tseminyu, Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Phek and Dimapur covering 120 women beneficiaries. All the beneficiaries have been supported with individual skill training, plantation, rearing house, equipments and silkworm seed for rearing.
